A study conducted by the Coleman Parkes Research firm at the request of Hewlett-Packard (HP)  revealed that over a third of Latin American organizations do not have effective information management.

The survey also revealed that about 50% of executives in the region do not have a clear strategy to take advantage of the data that their organizations generate and only 2% have organizations that provide strategic information immediately.

In terms of business alignment, a third of respondents said that their companies do not have a clear strategy between the operation and the main priorities of the organization, in terms of information management.

To this fact it is added that more than half of executives believe that the data collected by their companies, at least 51% of them are disconnected, are unknown or are directly useless.

Beyond the business strategy for the use of information, the study conducted by Coleman Parkes Research revealed some challenges faced by Latin American organizations in regard to the handling of data.

The first is that the increase of information is changing the way their organizations use business intelligence (BI).

Second is the growing expectations of regulatory and compliance requirements. Respondents consider that this is their biggest challenge in the management of information.

On the other hand, the survey showed that most companies are creating strategies for information management in a reactive manner to meet the compliance requirements, protect personal data and privacy policies to create social networks.

The study included the participation of over 550 senior executives from both the area of IT and business organizations around the world during the month of October this year.

The purpose of the research was to demonstrate which are the main risks and challenges faced by companies in managing the information and that it transcends organizational silos and technologies that are used for management.
