Paola Longoria achieves her fifth title

Mexican Paola Longoria of racquetball accumulated her fifth title in the professional racquetball circuit WPRO, after winning with American Kerri Wachtel, within the Tournament of Hope World Tour WPRO.

Longoria Lopez won in three sets, partial 11-3, 11-7, 11-7, which extended its lead atop the world rankings on the American and world champion Rhonda Rajsich, who was eliminated in Wachtel semifinals by another American, who won by 11-5, 11-6, 11-4.

Peruvian duo Dibós-Medina had to leave the Dakar

The Peruvians crashed Tuesday night and suffered some injuries, none serious. They thanked the public support.

Unfortunately the Dibós Racing team had to abandon its first Dakar participation due to a sharp blow with a dune. Although injuries are not serious, Gustavo Medina and Juan Dibós could not complete the stage on Tuesday.

The Central American XXXVI Championship Child and Youth Golf will be the first activity in the Salvadoran sports calendar in 2012 and the first international competition to be hosted by the country.

José María Durán, president of the Salvadoran Federation of Golf (FSG), confirmed that work on the final details and logistics of the regional, which will run from 4 to 7 January in the Salvadoran club Corinthians, are underway.

London 2012 ticket resale plans confirmed

The London 2012 Organizing Committee (LOCOG) has confirmed details of its ticket resale process for Olympic and Paralympic ticket holders.

Those who have bought tickets directly from LOCOG before January 6, 2012 will be able to resell their tickets via the London 2012 ticketing website from this date until February 3, 2012.

Grassroots cricket proving a success in Guyana

Former West Indies and Guyana fast bowler and now technical development officer in Guyana, Reon King has said that grassroots cricket in Guyana has benefitted from an injection of over GY$12,000,000 (US$60,000) in the past year and a similar injection is expected in the coming year.

This is part of the West Indies Cricket Board Digicel Grassroots Cricket Program, which is being run country-wide in Guyana and which has reinvigorated youth cricket all across the Caribbean.

 

Mali Sports Minister in Cuba to expand cooperation

Djiguiya Keita, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Mali, is in Cuba with the aim of expanding the island's sports cooperation with his country. Keita is leading a delegation invited by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER).

Upon his arrival at Jose Marti International Airport, the leader of the African nation said that the main purpose of his visit which will last until next Thursday is to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation in this area, as well as to know the experiences of the island in said area.

It was the end of the Convention 49 of the World Boxing Council (WBC) with the satisfaction of the president by the number of people who arrived at the event throughout the exhibition space at Mandalay Bay. He recognized that the most painful decision was that he had to accept was the mandatory defense against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. against the Argentinean Sergio Wonder Martinez.

This has perhaps been the convention that has satisfied me most. I do not think that it will ever happen again the number of world champions who were at this convention. There were over 100, and an equal number of promoters and delegates too. What had never happened. I take this as a demonstration to us that professional boxing people have confidence in the WBC, Jose Sulaiman outlines, president of the World Council.

Cuban chess Bruzón celebrates victory in the MacGregor Open

The Cuban chess player Lázaro Bruzón celebrated on Tuesday in Bogota, his Colombia Open YAHV MacGregor triumph in where he got 8.5 points from a possible 10.

Bruzón, with a rating of two thousand 689 points, reached that accumulated total after achieving 1.5 units in the double round on Sunday and confirmed his favoritism in the pre-competition.

 

Venezuela and Turkey will organize the pre-Olympic qualifiers

Madrid .- Venezuela and Turkey have been designated to host the basketball qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympic Games in the men and women, respectively, according to the international sport federation (FIBA), whose Central Committee met on Saturday in Madrid.

Thus, Venezuela will host in Caracas, from July 2 to 8, the twelve male national teams vying for three seats open for a chance to be in the Olympics next summer.

A week earlier, from June 25 to July 1, the twelve women's teams will meet in the Turkish capital, Ankara, to fight for the five Olympic places that are still vacant.

Cuban judokas will compete in the Grand Slam in Tokyo

Cuba will come with four of its top judokas at the Tokyo Grand Slam, which takes place from December 9 to December 11, local media reported today.

The female judokas who will attend the competition are Yanet Bermoy at 52 kilograms, Yaritza Abel at 63, Idalis Ortiz at more than 78, and Asley Gonzalez in the 90 kg category.

Racquetball seeks attention at Pan American Games

The quadrennial games are one of the biggest events for the racquetball, and officials say that success in Guadalajara will hopefully increase its popularity and eventually lead to Olympic inclusion.

"When you come to these countries and see the passion, the growth and the competition of it all, it gives our sport more and more hope," said American player Rocky Carson, ranked No. 2 in the world and a gold medalist in Guadalajara. "As a sport we are not worldwide, we are mainly played in the Americas. The more countries we play, the better the sport gets and the easier it is to create a stronger racquetball."

WTA expresses condolences over Turkey quake

Istanbul.- The elite of women's tennis awaits the start of the WTA Championships, expressing condolences for a country coping with a devastating earthquake that has left about 270 people dead.

The 7.2-magnitude quake struck Tuesday in eastern Turkey near the border with Iran, far from the tournament in Istanbul. Istanbul, the country's largest city with more than 12 million people, lies in northwest Turkey near a major fault line.

100 NBA games cancelled

Sticking to his deadline, Commissioner David Stern wiped out the first two weeks of the season — exactly 100 games — after more than seven hours of negotiations carried out on Monday failed to produce a new labor deal and preserve the Nov. 1 season openers.

The cancellations mark the NBA's first work stoppage since the 98-99 season was reduced to 50 games.
