The adequately employed population increased by 8.3 percent in metropolitan Lima in the moving quarter November-December 2011-January 2012, equivalent in absolute numbers to 202,000 people, reported on Wednesday the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
According to the Permanent Survey of Employment (EPE in Spanish) for the rolling quarter mentioned, the underemployed population decreased by 4.9 percent the equivalent of 92.300 people.
Thus, the part-time underemployed (visible underemployment) decreased 9.4 percent (58,000 people) and the incom-based underemployed (invisible underemployment) decreased 2.7 percent, ie 34.400 people.In the moving quarter in metropolitan Lima there were six million 899,000 people analyzed who are old enough to perform an economic activity, which corresponds to the group People of working age (PET).
Of the total of PET, 69.8 percent, ie 816.000 four million people made the economically active population (EAP) and the remaining 30.2 percent, equivalent to two million 83.000 people are the economically inactive population (EIP), which groups people who do not participate in economic activity as employed nor unemployed.
In the moving quarter under review compared to similar previous period, the EAP increased by 2.6 percent (122.500 persons) and the PEI did not show any variation.
The PEI is comprised of those dedicated exclusively to housework, they only study, retirees or pensioners, those with physical disabilities, etc.
The PEA identifies the population engaged in the generation of some economic good or the provision of a service (population), which in the moving quarter under review reached four million 442.600 people.
Compared with same quarter the previous period, the EAP increased by 2.5 percent, equivalent to 109.700 people.
Moreover, the EAP unemployed, those that are looking for a job (unemployment) in the moving quarter under review increased by 3.6 percent, which amounts to 12.900 people.
Studied in the moving quarter, out of 100 people within the economically active population of metropolitan Lima, 93 people were employed: 55 and 38 suitably employed and underemployed respectively.
In the moving quarter unemployment affected 7.8 percent of the labor force in metropolitan Lima, which amounts to 373.500 persons, and compared with that observed in similar rolling quarter last year, the unemployed actively seeking employment increased by 3.6 percent (12,900 people).
