Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Jose Luis Silva Martinot, estimated Wednesday that the Peruvian ports will receive about 37 luxury cruise ships this year, of which 30 will arrive at the port of Callao.

He recalled that the previous day (Tuesday) Seaborn Sojourn and Artlana with 450 and 1,200 passengers respectively arrived at the North Terminal of Callao the Multi port.

He said tourists who travel on cruise ships are people willing to make purchases in Peru of jewelry or crafts, and there are even some traveling to visit Cusco or the Moche Route.

He explained that more cruise arrivals to Peru are between October and May, and to address them more multi-ports are needed to provide better service to ships and to bring more tourists to the country.

He also stressed the willingness of the president of the regional government of Lambayeque, Humberto Acuña, to provide adequate infrastructure to the region addressing these cruises and allowing tourists to visit the Moche Route.

He said that the regional authority is developing a project for the construction of a multipurpose quay for cruise care and which would also serve to load.

He said that it will be difficult for the port to be only for tours because it must be noted that only ten percent of the year it will be occupied by cruise ships.

Silva emphasized that Peru should aspire to become mandatory destination of the cruises as this will allows many foreign tourists arriving from other countries to board their respective vessels.
