The former minister Carlos Bula Camacho announced on Monday the creation of a national steering committee to promote the legalization of drugs worldwide.

The former Bogota ex councilman and former ex general secretary of the Alternative Democratic Pole stressed that the intention of the committee is moving from the "timid proposal" made by President Juan Manuel Santos to achieve concrete actionas to achieve the international community to decriminalize the drug to meet the collateral damage of drug trafficking.

The committee will be operational in 15 days and will be led by Bula Camacho and former ex Attorney General's Office, Gustavo de Greiff, they will also carried out an extensive campaign to international organizations like the UN, OAS, and UNASUR.

He added that the issue of legalizing drugs is a priority and should be treated as soon as possible and refute those who insist that decriminalization would only exacerbate the conflict. He added that the nations that have legalized the drug somehow have managed to reduce traffic and consumption considerably. Camacho insisted that, like the snuff and alcohol after its legalization, a hard regulation was applied and achieved regular use.

During a talk developed in the framework of the "Hay Festival" in Cartagena, the issue of decriminalization of the drug was put on the table for what President Juan Manuel Santos intervened.

During this event, Sergio Ramirez, Nicaraguan writer said that the only solution to the drug problem is legalization.

To which the president replied: "I do not disagree with that. And I say that as President of the Republic. That solution would be acceptable to Colombia, if the whole world takes it. Such are the contradictions that we sit down and discuss. And of course, the first consumer in the world, and Europe too, because in his country and in England consumption is rising, then they have to sit ".

President Santos confirmed: Colombia has been perhaps the country that has been suffering the most due to fighting against drug trafficking. It has cost us our best leaders, our best journalists, our best judges, to our best officers.
