Consumption of piracy in Mexico

Consumers recognize that the consumption of piracy is damaging for the economy and contributes to crime but does not bind the problem to a personal cost.

The purchase of pirated products distinguished no social stratum. The consumption of piracy is a widespread phenomenon of society, not due to socio-economic considerations but acquired in the informal sector of the economy, according to data from the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico AC and the 4th survey of piracy consumption habits in Mexico. Piracy consumers are victims of the economic crisis. 8 out of 10 of those interviewed buy pirated products. 75% of respondents say consume piracy by the plight of the family economy, but at the same time the 72% of them recognizes that this crime weakened the Mexican economy to generate jobs and taxes and encourage illegality.

According to this survey data, piracy is recognized by the respondents as an illegal act of negative consequences, but 46% perceive that it helps their personal economy:

77% believes that this crime encourages crime.

75% believes that this crime attacks security.

72% believes that this crime weakens the Mexican economy.

63% believes that this crime attacks innovation.
