The study, published in its latest issue the journal Neurology, involved 1450 elderly aged 70 and 89 years who were followed for three years.
In this period, a total of 296 participants developed this deterioration, which suggests an incidence rate of 6 percent annually. However, when analyzing the data by sex was observed that, among men, the incidence rate was 7 percent, compared with 5 percent found in women.

Rosebud O. Roberts, Department of Epidemiology, Mayo Clinic, the study's lead author has acknowledged in statistical terms, the significant difference between incidence rates among men and women represents a major breakthrough in evaluating patients with MCI.

The study also showed that individuals who had only a half level education developed a greater extent than those who had completed higher education, regardless of sex.
