Bank lending slows

Despite improvements in economic prospects, capital inflows from domestic banks to the private sector show no signs of recovery. The Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) reports that as of 25 February the bank credit in its variation decreased to 0.3%, while the monthly (January versus February) contracted by 0.9%.

The Central Bank shows that by the end of 2009 the loan portfolio had grown by 1.2%, a percentage that began this year. In the first month of the amount of this item was of Q88, 418.4 million, but to 25 February is in Q87, 608.1 million (read: almost zero).
