The Camera of mass media, the Camera of Broadcasting of Guatemala and the Guatemalan Union of Agencies of Publicity (UGAP) published, February 2, a communiqué that alerted on the presentation of "an initiative of law that intends (…) to violate the Constitution of the Republic and to establish a bureaucratic company with the authority to censure any type of audiovisual material".
Something that would be able to be interpreted the State creating was a mechanism for the control of images and productions in the mass media.
The statement referred specifically to the Law of the film and audiovisual industry, proposed since 2007 by the Guatemalan Association of the Audiovisual and Film (Agacino), which is responsible for maintaining information and records on film events in the country, besides gather various directors, producers, technicians and actors of any other industry-related movies.
