
The affluence of travelers in the Lake of Atitlán and its outskirts is not the same one that in previous years. In the first two months, the visits fell 9% in comparison with the same interim of the previous year, according to the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat). One of the reasons is the presence of the cianobacteria in the cloak aquifer, the director of the Inguat thinks, Roberto Robles.
The official indicated that the lake, that grasps the 5% of the travelers that arrive at the country, registered a total drop of 11% in 2009 in comparison with 2008. The fall that reflects in January and February is an opponent to the increase of 7,8% in the income of tourists in the bowlegged territory, detailed Robles, during the launch of the Plan of Marketing of the Institute for the present year (he read: Alliance with the MP).
